The pioneering journalist Monica Roberts, whose influential blog TransGriot reports on the murders of trans women alongside other news of importance to the trans community, has died, according to multiple sources on social media and news outlets.
The award winning Roberts was an inspiration to many LGBTQ activists, campaigners and journalists, who took to Twitter and Facebook to express their grief and shock Thursday night.
In a Facebook post, the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition wrote: “It is with great sadness that the BTAC family has received notice of the passing of Monica Roberts, our sister, aunt, and friend. We should have a well elaborated post about this, but at the moment we just need to notify the public and begin processing our grief and loss at this time. Please keep Monica’s soul, friends and family in your prayers that they all may find comfort and peace at this time of separation. We love you Monica. Fly high, angel.”
Tory Lanez has been charged with two felonies for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in July.
Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, shot Megan, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, during an argument with her and one of her friends outside a July 12 party in the Hollywood Hills, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. The two had been riding in an SUV together before Peterson stepped out and allegedly began firing.
He’s charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 13, and he faces 22 years and eight months in prison if convicted.
Federal prosecutors announced on Thursday that six men were arrested and charged for allegedly plotting with a violent extremist group to kidnap Whitmer and overthrow the government. “Several members talked about murdering ‘tyrants’ or ‘taking’ a sitting governor,” an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit. “The group decided they needed to increase their numbers and encouraged each other to talk to their neighbors and spread their message.”
During her afternoon presser, Whitmer took aim at the president’s heated rhetoric and sympathetic comments towards far-right extremists, claiming he was “stoking distrust” and energizing hate groups and white nationalists.
Anastasia Golyakova, who testified in Dawson County Court on Thursday about her months-long relationship with Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail, revealed the couple told her they believed they could make upwards of “one million dollars” from these sinister videos.
“I paid three psychologists to forget this,” Golyakova said, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Former high-dollar Trump fundraiser Elliott Broidy plans to plead guilty to a federal criminal charge over an alleged scheme to influence the Trump administration on behalf of a Malaysian businessman at the center of a massive international money laundering conspiracy.
In a criminal information filing filed in federal court in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, the Justice Department accuses Broidy of accepting millions of dollars to press the administration to abandon or reduce its criminal probe into Jho Low, who is accused of orchestrating a multi-billion-dollar fraud against a Malaysian government investment fund.
The filing alleges that Broidy committed one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires disclosure of lobbying activity on behalf of foreign interests.
The charges against the men, who allegedly called themselves the “Wolverine Watchmen,” came in tandem with federal charges against six other men in an alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer. The group’s involvement—or lack thereof—with those facing federal charges was murky at the time of the announcements. But social media posts and testimony from neighbors of the “Wolverine Watchmen” suggest they had a disturbing relationship with the far-right paramilitary movement.
According to state prosecutors, the “Wolverine Watchmen” group plotted a violent attack on Michigan’s government and sought to incite a civil war this summer, with plans to kidnap elected officials. Some of the defendants, who range in age from 21 to 42, had online presences hinting at violence.
If it was up to me and my tastebuds, I’d eat just about anything on this green earth. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to wheat, caffeine makes my back hurt, most milk replacements bother my stomach, and Stevia makes me depressed. For all of those (weird) reasons, I’ve had a hard time with health drinks. Then, one fateful day while I was scrolling through Facebook, I saw an ad for something called Ka’Chava. Meal replacement shakes all promise the same things — tons of nutrients, delicious taste, easy to prepare, and capable of satiating your hunger — so what made this one different?
Being the chronic label-reader that I am, I had to at least look. (Admittedly, one of my favorite past-times is being super judgy about all the crap health foods stuff into their not-actually-healthy foods.) So I clicked on the website and went to their ingredients page. I can’t find a single ingredient here I don’t approve of, and for those who don’t know me, that’s revolutionary. It’s loaded with antioxidants from berries, adaptogens from mushrooms, protein from seeds, and fiber from grains. It also has prebiotics, probiotics, and enzymes, and almost all of the ingredients are organic. Even the sweeteners come from superfood fruit extracts.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that around $70 per bag is not cheap, but I never intended on buying it more than once. Well, I’m now three bags deep, and I’ll never, ever again purchase another health shake from anyone else. It tastes like having an ice cream shake for breakfast, and while I prefer the chocolate, the vanilla is also pretty delicious, especially if you blend it with a banana. I use half milk and half water to make mine a little thicker, though people say it thickens up pretty well with water alone since it’s got real coconut milk built right in. As long as you use a decent blender and make sure the rest of your ingredients are cold, it’s smooth, refreshing, and not at all clumpy — unlike so many other brands.
Terrorists, dictators, mass shooters, gang members, deadly natural disasters, and… Kamala Harris. These are the things President Donald Trump considers “monsters.”
In his first live TV appearance since his COVID-19 hospitalization, Trump on Thursday raged for nearly an hour on Fox Business Network, declaring his refusal to do a virtual debate with Joe Biden and suggesting Gold Star families may have given him the deadly virus. Towards the end of the interview, the president aimed his fury at Sen. Kamala Harris, calling her a “monster.”
“This monster that was on stage with Mike Pence, who destroyed her last night by the way, this monster she says, ‘No, no, there won’t be fracking, there won’t be this.’” The famously truthful president then complained: “Everything she said was a lie!” Harris is “horrible,” “totally unlikable,” and a “communist,” Trump added.
Fox News Media announced Thursday that Trump campaign adviser Harlan Z. Hill, a self-described Washington public relations and political consultant, is no longer welcome on their air after he tweeted that Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris “comes off as an insufferable lying bitch.”
“We have no intention of booking him as a guest on any of our platforms,” a Fox News Media spokesperson said in a statement to The Daily Beast, the morning after Hill—a frequent Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network guest over the past five years—unleashed his misogynistic attack on the Black California senator during her debate with Vice President Mike Pence.
Hill’s tweet—which was on-brand with President Donald Trump’s repeated claim on Thursday morning to Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo that Harris is “a monster”—provoked immediate condemnation along with around 6,000 retweets and 6,300 likes from Trump partisans.
How do we know Kamala Harris won the vice presidential debate? We know because the next morning, Donald Trump called into Fox Business’ Money Honey Maria Bartiromo and called Harris “this monster.” Trump’s rage made it clear that he was profoundly triggered by the shellacking she gave his shellack-haired lackey.
In the interview, which edged us closer to the 25th Amendment territory that is beginning to seem all-but-inevitable, Trump also called Harris a “communist” and said: “This monster that was on stage with Mike Pence, who destroyed her last night by the way, this monster, she says, ‘No, no, there won’t be fracking, there won’t be this.’ Everything she said was a lie!”
Of course he did. She’s a strong woman, which this weak man can’t stand.
