Russian Gloating About U.S. Unrest Is Racist as Hell

Russian Gloating About U.S. Unrest Is Racist as Hell

Mikhail Svetlov

America’s heartbreak brought considerable joy to Vladimir Putin’s Russia, but the gloating also exposes the deep ugliness of his regime.

Russian reporters covering protests on American soil appear to sympathize with the protesters, but state media reports for domestic audiences tell an entirely different story.

War correspondent Dmitry Steshin authored a despicably racist article for the Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda, purporting to give advice to the American protesters. His mockery of the ongoing protests in the United States made references to “muscular criminal Negroes,” described “twerking” as the “national Negro dance,” recommended the use of amphetamines, and called for blood, with as many deaths as possible.

Trump Aides Want Him to Meet the Moment, but He Can’t Quit His Grievance Shtick

As the country descended further into civil strife and racial unrest, President Donald Trump was offered a choice between advisers urging him to break out of the politics of grievance and his own overpowering desire to dig in.

In the end—as is always the case—Trump’s gut won out.

The president, on Monday night, had police use tear gas to disperse peaceful protesters for the purposes walking to the nearby historic St. John’s church so he could be photographed holding a bible outside. It was just .1 miles, according to Google maps, but rarely have such profound constitutional ripple effects accompanied such a short stroll through the park.

Barr Promises to Sic Terror-Hunters on Protesters

Doug Mills-Pool/Getty

Attorney General Bill Barr told state governors on Monday that the Department of Justice was prepared to use the FBI’s regional counterterrorism hubs to share information with local law enforcement about “extremists” and “agitators” in the protests sweeping the country

Barr said the Justice Department would tap Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs)—regional groups that ordinarily unite area FBI agents with state, local and federal law enforcement to monitor and pursue suspected terrorists—to “identify people in the crowd, pull them out and prosecute them.”

It’s an early glimpse of how the Justice Department plans to make President Trump’s legally dubious threat to treat protesters as terrorists a reality. According to a JTTF veteran, it’s a flagrant misuse of the task forces. And it’s a sign that the ever-expanding war on terror is jumping yet another guardrail.

Protesters Tear-Gassed for Trump ‘Law and Order’ Photo Op

Moments before President Trump was scheduled to take the podium to address nationwide protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death, police officers near the North Lawn of the White House charged at peaceful protesters, throwing tear gas as they aggressively attempted to disperse the crowd.

Dozens of people in the crowd were yelling, some with both hands above their heads, as police continued to infiltrate the scene, pushing them back with shields emblazoned “MILITARY POLICE.”

At various junctures, the startling sound of flash-bangs broke out, ringing though the air even as Trump began to speak, declaring himself the “president of law and order.”

Tucker Carlson Blames Jared Kushner for Trump’s Protest Catastrophe

Fox News

Fox News host Tucker Carlson tore into White House senior adviser and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner on Monday night, blaming him for leading the president astray and having “contempt” for Trump’s voters as violent protests rage across the country.

Kicking off Tucker Carlson Tonight by raging against the increasingly chaotic demonstrations that have flared up over George Floyd’s death, Carlson first took issue with Republican leaders sympathizing with peaceful protesters.

“Who are you talking about?” Carlson growled. “Is it the people spitting foam as they scream ‘F the police’? Is it the one sitting next to the arsonist doing nothing as they set fire to buildings? Is it the kids laughing as they filmed the looting and the beatings on their iPhones?”

CNN’s Don Lemon Goes Off on Trump for ‘Declaring War on Americans’

Immediately following President Donald Trump’s Rose Garden address to the nation, as military police continued to fire tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protesters, CNN host Don Lemon delivered a stark message to viewers about what they were watching.

“This was a made for television moment,” Lemon said. “Open your eyes, America. Open your eyes. We are teetering on a dictatorship. This is chaos.”

“Is the president declaring war on Americans?” he asked. “What is happening here? He’s saying he wants to protect peaceful protesters at the same time sending law enforcement and military into the streets to push peaceful protesters back, to be aggressive with peaceful protesters. He is doing the exact opposite of what he said in that speech.”

‘The Breakfast Club’ Battles Rush Limbaugh in Truly Wild Chat: ‘You’re Being Delusional’

Rush Limbaugh, who has rarely left his ideological bubble for interviews in years, on Monday sparred with the hosts of popular progressive, black culture-focused radio show The Breakfast Club. The lengthy back-and-forth was often tense, with the top-rated conservative radio talker often being asked to answer for his controversial views on racial politics.

At various points in their nearly 30-minute-long chat—which was taped Sunday and aired Monday on both radio shows—the iconic right-wing radio host claimed that “white privilege” does not exist, seemed to liken his own mistreatment by his critics to injustices experienced by people of color, and wondered aloud why black Americans are still angry about racial injustice even after President Barack Obama was elected.

The Breakfast Club hosts—Charlamagne tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy—seemed at times flummoxed by Limbaugh’s assertions, which ranged from waxing poetic about black unemployment under Obama to suggesting that the nationwide protests could’ve been quelled if the Minnesota Vikings signed Black Lives Matter activist and quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kayleigh McEnany Insists Trump’s Not ‘Hiding’ While Speaking for Him

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany pushed back on Monday against the notion that President Donald Trump is “hiding” from the American people as protests against police brutality continue to sweep the nation.

“He was literally put in a bunker Friday night by the Secret Service,” one member of the press corps said, citing reports that emerged over the weekend. “Would you agree that he is hiding out on this issue and is that a good posture to be in?” the reporters asked.

“I would not agree with that at all,” McEnany replied, without denying that Trump had been rushed to an underground bunker typically reserved for terrorist attacks. She said she had been on the phone with the president “at least half a dozen times” on Sunday and touted all of the “action” he has taken amidst the unrest. “Where the governors have failed, he’s stepped in,” she said.

Omaha Bar Owner Will Not Be Charged in Killing of Black Protester

Handout

Prosecutors said Monday they will not charge the white Omaha bar owner who fatally shot a black protester this weekend after reviewing video of the incident and deeming it an act of self-defense.

“The actions of the shooter, the bar owner, were justified,” Douglas County Attorney Donald Kleine said at a press conference.

“This decision may not be popular,” he said, referring to calls for the bar owner, Jake Gardner, to be charged with murder in the death of James Scurlock, 22.
